Barekese Water Treatment Plant Shut Down

 

THE BAREKESE Water Treatment Plant, the main supplier of portable drinking water for Kumasi and the nearby areas, has been shut down due to technical challenges, it has been announced.

The shutdown is to help pave way for seasoned engineers of the Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to work and fix the faulty water treatment plant.

This was contained in a press release signed by Dr. Hanson Mensah-Akutteh, Regional Chief Manager GWL Ashanti Production Region.

Until works on the faulty water treatment plant are completed, the GWL has admonished their customers to use the available water judiciously.

The statement reads, “The management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) Ashanti Production wishes to inform its cherished customers and the public of the interruptions in water supply in Kumasi Metropolis.

“This is due to a technical challenge encountered at Barekese Water Treatment Plant which has necessitated the shutdown to enable the engineers rectify the challenge.”

The press release, which was authored on December 13, 2023, also disclosed that a team of GWL engineers are working assiduously to resolve the challenge.

It stated that water production would resume immediately the works on the water treatment plant are completed, urging customers to use their available water judiciously.
