Barker-Vormawor Committed To High Court Over Treason Felony Case

The Convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor has been committed by the Ashaiman District Court to stand trial at the High Court for treason felony.

This was after the Bill of Indictment which also contained the summary of evidence was moved by Anastasia Karim of the Attorney General’s office at the court presided over by Judge Eleanor Barnes Kakra Botwe.

Mr Barker-Vormawor will remain on his previous bail but he is to appear at the High Court in September to continue with the felony proceedings.

Albeit his legal counsel, Dr. Justice Srem Sai attempts to pursuade the court to hold on with the committal when he raised concern about charges preferred against the convener who is also a lawyer by profession but the court in its wisdom proceeded with the committal.

Mr. Barker-Vormawor faces two counts of treason felony for allegedly making posts on his social media accounts purporting to usurp the executive powers of the state by advocating an overthrow of the Constitution.

The summary of evidence contained in the bill of Indictment indicates that the state will call three witnesses which include the complainant in the case and the cyber intelligence lead at the Crime Unit of the police CID.

Director of Public Prosecutions at the Attorney General’s Department, Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, who filed the Bill of Indictment also indicated the exhibits that the prosecution will tender at the trial to advance its case against Mr. Barker Vormawor.

These include the cautioned statement and charge statement of the accused both dated February 11, 2022, and some of his Facebook and Twitter posts.

Mr Barker-Vormawor was arraigned before the Ashaiman District Court last February 14 and was granted bail by the Tema High Court.
