The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who turned 69 yesterday, marked his birthday in church.
The 16th Asante Monarch stormed the Saint Cyprians Anglican Church in Kumasi in the morning to thank God.
He was supported by Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who travelled from Accra to take part in the celebration.
Apart from the vice president, some present and past top government officials in the country were also at the church to support Otumfuo.
Nearly all paramount chiefs in Asanteman and some prominent chiefs from other regions in Ghana were in attendance.
The Otumfuo was elated throughout the service, and at a point the congregation unanimously prayed fervently for long life, sound health and heavenly wisdom for him.
The Asantehene exchanged pleasantries with some dignitaries during the latter stages of the service.
The Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu, on behalf of Otumfuo, thanked the congregation for their support.
He said Otumfuo appreciates the love that the people of Asanteman and Ghana have showed to him during his reign.
Residents of Asanteman and Kumasi, in particular, celebrated Otumfuo on the occasion of his birthday, as virtually all the radio stations in Kumasi dedicated their morning show programmes to Otumfuo yesterday.
Several residents of the city also called into the programme to wish Otumfuo a happy birthday while others took to the social media to wish him well.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu recently celebrated his 20th anniversary in Kumasi.
