Bawumia Honoured With 12 Scholarships

Vice President Dr Bawumia helping Indian officials to cut the tape to commission a project

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was honoured with 12 scholarships by two Indian tertiary institutions in honour of his visit to the country.

The scholarships were offered to him when he joined his spouse, Hajia Samira Bawumia, for an engagement with local NGOs in New Delhi.

The Parul University offered two full scholarships to the Vice President to be awarded to Ghanaian students, while the Crescent University presented 10 partial ones for PhD programmes.

Another activity which featured in the Vice President’s programme in New Delhi was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Head of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Nsiah Asare and Yenupoha Teaching Hospital under which the tertiary institution would offer free healthcare for paediatric cases.

Hajia Samira Bawumia made a wonderful presentation to her Indian hosts about the work of her Samira Empowerment & Humanitarian Projects.

She spoke about the efforts to change lives of those who were not as fortunate as her and charged others to do same.

Those who find themselves in privileged positions must use these opportunities to help others who are not lucky.

Her NGO has embarked upon a programme of providing birth kits to women who deliver so that the factors which cause maternal mortality can be eliminated.

She pointed out that this has indeed impacted positively on the lives of such women.
