Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commended the efforts and talents of 15 gold medalists who stood out during the National Skills Competition.

This was when they called on him at the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday.

The contest, which is meant to create a platform for competitors in the area of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), was organised by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) under the leadership of Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, the Director-General.

In congratulating them, the Vice President encouraged winners to take skills acquisition serious.

He said the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government was focused on prioritising the promotion of TVET, making huge investments in infrastructure development and training of human resource towards achieving the set objectives.

The Vice President said skills acquisition would enable the youth to create their own businesses or secure jobs quicker after school in order to contribute their quota to national development.

Dr. Bawumia challenged the award winners to prepare adequately to win the African edition of the Skills Competition in Namibia in March next year, and subsequently win the world’s skills competition as well.

The 15 award winners emerged from a pool of 73 competitors who participated in 14 different categories at the 2021 National Skills Competition last October.

The Vice President took the opportunity to thank the lecturers and management of the various education institutions whose students emerged winners in the 2021 National Skills Competition.

Dr. Asamoah, on his part, promised to help develop TVET into an enviable position in the scheme of things.

That, he said, would not only unearth talents but also help to solve the issue of unemployment among the youth.

Some of the categories which the 73 contestants contested for during the competition include Graphic Design, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Auto-mobile Techonlogy, Electrical Installation, IT and Business Solution and Cooking.
