The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is leading a strong government delegation to Apiate, a community near Bogoso in the Western Region where some residents lost their lives through deadly explosion.
The Vice President who is to commiserate with victims of Thursday’s incident and their families as well as see to the help government can extend to them to return life to normalcy.
He is also expected to make donation of some relief items to the stranded persons and visit those receiving treatment at the various health facilities after visiting the crime scene for first hand information on the situation.
The Vice President was joined by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, who four years ago had warned the company about poor safety measures, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, the Western Regional Minister and other state officials.
Seventeen persons have so far been confirmed dead with 59 persons injured in the deadly explosion.
Several other people were stranded after their homes were consumed by the explosion with suvivors passing the night in schools and churches.
Meanwhile, steps are being taken by government to referred some of the injured victims to Accra.
