In a calculated bid to bolster his
Presidential ambitions, the 2024 flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia sought the blessings of the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, and the Okyeman Council.
Accompanied by his campaign team members led by the Manager, Frederick Opare-Ansah, Dr Bawumia stormed the Ofori Panin Fie, Kyebi, where his boss, President Akufo-Addo, hails from.
He expressed gratitude to the Okyeman Council for their support during the November Party’s Presidential Primaries and also sought their blessings for the upcoming general elections.
The move, according to Dr Bawumia, was in line with the NPP – Danquah, Busia, and Dombo tradition, as reminiscent of his predecessor, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who also courted the Okyenhene’s support in his previous presidential campaign.
By expressing gratitude to the Okyenhene and seeking his blessings, Dr. Bawumia aimed to tap into the traditional leader’s vast cultural and spiritual authority.
However, Okyenhene, in his response, emphasizes the need for a peaceful election and a candidate with a track record untainted by corruption, which serves as a subtle reminder of the traditional leaders’ expectations of political leaders.
Okyenhene urged Ghanaians to vote for a leader who has ideas and innovations and thinks about the well-being of the citizens rather than any individual vying for their interests.
