Bawumia To Commission 2 Astro Turfs In Koforidua

The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is set to commission two astro turfs in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

The commissioning ceremony will take place during the Vice President’s tour of the region on July 26.

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia will also lay the foundation for the construction of a third astro turf at Koforidua Zongo, inspect the progress of the Nyamekrom Polyclinic, and commission a modern police post at the Koforidua Technical University.

The projects, which are being implemented as part of the New Koforidua Project by the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi, are at different stages of completion.

The locations of the projects include Koforidua Betom, Nyamekrom, Adweso, and Sarkodie.

In an interview, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi expressed his belief that the projects would bring relief and development to the residents of Koforidua.

He highlighted the importance of the astro turfs in encouraging sports and recreation and the potential to unearth young talents.

The MP also emphasized that the completion of these projects would enhance the visibility and image of the municipality.

Furthermore, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi emphasized the significance of the modern police post being constructed at the Koforidua Technical University.

He explained that the absence of a police station in the area posed a security risk, especially considering the large student population of about 10,000.

The MP assured the community that the police post would protect them from any external threats and hinder the progress of the area.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industries expressed concern about the state of security in Koforidua and the frequent malfunctioning of street lights.

He announced that his office is collaborating with the police command to investigate the reason behind the recurring issue and find a permanent solution.

The goal is to improve the security in the area and deter criminal activities.

The Council Chairman of the Koforidua Technical University, Professor Samuel Apori, expressed gratitude to the MP and the Deputy Minister for providing the university with a modern police post.

He emphasized the positive impact it would have in enhancing security on campus and ensuring the safety of students, staff, and stakeholders.

These projects are part of the government’s efforts to bring development and progress to Koforidua, and it is expected that they will significantly benefit the community once completed.
