Berla Mundi, Rebecca Donkor, Others Made Ambassadors For TVET

TVET ambassadors with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

The Ministry of Education (MoE), through the Council for Technical & Vocational Education & Training (COTVET), has unveiled a number of Ghanaian celebrities and entrepreneurs as ambassadors for technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

Among them were Kwami Sefa Kayi, Okyeame Kwame, actress Martha Ankomah and Rebecca Donkor, a beauty industry stakeholder and entrepreneur. The rest included Berla Mundi and Dr. Daniel McKorley, who is also an entrepreneur.

They would use their influence in society to help promote TVET and make it more attractive to the youth.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, the ambassadors were officially introduced to the Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and the Deputy Minister for Education (TVET), Gifty Twum-Ampofo, at the MoE.

In June 2019, the MoE through COTVET launched the MyTVET campaign, which is aimed at changing negative perceptions about TVET in Ghana.

One of the key activities of the campaign is the TVET ambassador campaign which would complement efforts such as the skills competition, radio and TV advertisements, TVET clubs in junior high schools, TVET career guidance and counselling, road shows, among others.

The ambassadors would be engaged in activities such as school visitations, social media campaigns, community visitations and radio and television talk shows. They would also be engaged in creating awareness about policies and programmes being rolled out by COTVET and MoE with regard to TVET.

Whilst addressing the ambassadors, Dr. Opoku Prempeh indicated how pleased he is with the calibre of personalities who have been engaged to lead the campaign of changing negative perceptions about TVET in Ghana, and called on the ambassadors to work tirelessly to ensure that most of the youth opt for TVET, because TVET, to him, is equal if not superior to general education.

The team of ambassadors would be officially introduced to First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, who has also accepted to be the principal TVET ambassador in the coming weeks before the official launch of the TVET ambassador and role model campaign.
