Freddie Blay Retains GNPC, Aliu’s Son For GIISDEC
The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie W. Blay, has been reappointed as the Board Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
In the same vein, Farouk Aliu Mahama, son of former Vice President, late Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has been appointed as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC).
Mr. Blay will be leading the seven-member board to consolidate the efforts of promoting the exploration and the planned development of petroleum resources in the country.
GNPC through the board has been working hard to ensure that Ghana obtains the greatest possible benefits from the development of its petroleum resources as well as obtain the effective transfer to Ghana of appropriate technology relating to petroleum operations.
They have also ensured the training of Ghanaians and the development of national capabilities in all aspects of petroleum operations, and are also ensuring that their operations are conducted in such a manner as to prevent adverse effects on the environment, resources and people of the country.
According to reports, the previous members on the board with the exception of lawyer Nana Adjoa Hackman, will all continue serving on the board.
GNPC recently ranked as the best-governed national oil company (NOC) in sub-Saharan Africa in the areas of transparency and accountability as well as the fifth best-governed NOC globally.
In the 2017 Resource Governance Index (RGI) of the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI), GNPC was adjudged as the eighth best state-owned enterprise globally out of 74 state-owned enterprises assessed by the RGI.
Farouk Move
In the case of Farouk Aliu Mahama, who doubles as NPP MP for Yendi, President Akufo-Addo during his visit to Northern Region over the weekend, announced the young MP’s appointment.
“I am still constituting my government and Ya-Na I want to assure you that your son, Farouk Aliu Mahama, will be appointed by me as the Board Chair for the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation to replace my good friend late Prince Imoru Andani, who served in that capacity,” the President told Ya-Na Yakubu Mahama, the Overlord of Dagbon, in Yendi.
Farouk Mahama is expected to lead the board as GIISDEC works to develop Ghana’s iron and steel industry for development.
According to the President, he worked closely with the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama and is aware of his hard work and drive which has been transmitted to his son.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo noted that Farouk has started his journey in the political arena on a sound footing by helping drive development in Yendi.
“I am particularly happy that Farouk is taking over from his father by working to drive home development, and that is a mark he’s taken over from his father who served Ghana with all sincerity,” the President stated.
