Blows Over Mahama, Goosie At Ashaiman

Former President Mahama with Tony Afenyo and other party supporters at the venue.

Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashaiman Constituency have clashed over former President John Dramani Mahama and Goosie Tanoh, who intend to become flagbearers of the party for the 2020 elections.

The NDC Constituency Operations Officer, Carlos Usman was said to have engaged the constituency chairman, Tony Afenyo, in a fierce fight which culminated in injuries to the two.

It is believed that Afenyo is an ardent supporter of Goosie Tanoh while his opponent Usman belongs to the camp of former President Mahama.

Reports said the constituency chairman allegedly led some youth to paste the posters of Goosie on structures in the constituency ahead of Mahama’s visit.

The fight occurred at the Celestial School Complex, venue for event which was to be attended by the former president.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the pasting of Goosie’s posters at the venue did not go down well with Carlos Usman, who confronted the NDC constituency chairman which resulted in the fight.

Usman Carlos told Accra-based radio station Class Fm that “I don’t consider him an honourable person because he is not doing the honourable thing. Tony has been doing certain things in Ashaiman that I’ve been quiet about for a long but I think it’s time for me to bring him to book. I don’t care, he can support his Goosie Tanoh; it’s a game, but as chairman he should, at least, remain neutral. We were at the premises at 10.00pm to make sure we fix the lights and everything for John Maham, but Tony ordered his boys, one Sammy and another, whose name I have forgotten, to come to the premises with Goosie Tanoh’s posters.

“Tony ordered his boys to paste posters of Goosie Tanoh on those of JM.”

According to Operations Officer, he rushed to the premises and confronted the Constituency Chairman over the issue which infuriated him (Tony).

“I told him emphatically that he should not try do anything to JM. I promised Tony that I will not even allow him to enter the premises when JM comes today. Tony should wait for Goosie Tanoh to come to Ashaiman before pasting his posters.

“We fought, you can ask him. He gave me a blow and I also retaliated. I won because I have never lost any fight. It was terrible and I had to make a call to some of my brothers to come and support me because Tony had his boys with him.”

Reports said the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Ernest Henry Norgbey, later calmed them down and defused the tension.
