Bomb Suspects In Court

The accused persons

Two young men who were arrested at Odokor in Accra for allegedly possessing Russian-made hand grenades yesterday made their first appearance at the Accra High Court.

The accused persons- Ismaila Ali Musah, 31, and Abdul Karim Yakubu, 30, were committed to the high court by an Accra Magistrate court, presided over by Mr. Ebenezer Kwaku Ansah after the Attorney General’s Office said it had enough evidence to prosecute them.

The police arrested them after they received information that the three suspects were in possession of military grenades.

They were provisionally charged with possessing explosives and firearms without lawful authority.

Sefakor Batse, a Senior State Attorney at the time, told the court that the Ghana Army confirmed that the weapons were manufactured in Russia.

Another suspect, Osman Alhassan, 33, was discharged in March 2018 for want of evidence.

It followed a decision by the Attorney General’s Office to drop the charges against him based on evidence presented to the office.

The case became dormant for sometime after they were charged.

They were eventually brought to the court yesterday where they attempted to reapply for bail, but the case was not heard because the court did not have the docket on the two.

They were later conveyed to another court which was to hear the substantive matter.

It also adjourned the case because it did not have the docket.
