Boy, 12, Grabbed For Robbery

It has emerged that a 12-year-old boy is a key member of a group of hardened robbers who have embarked on robberies in Asante Mampong lately.

The armed robbers have been terrorizing students of the Asante Mampong Midwifery and Nursing Training College.

In the past year, the hoodlums have been attacking hapless trainee nurses, who are now clearly living in fear.

The police intensified investigations in the area to arrest the boy(name withheld).

Another suspected armed robber, identified as Kwame Frimpong, 19, was also arrested by the police.

A police source said the arrest of the two suspects, especially the 12 year-old boy, has been welcomed by the elated trainee nurses.

According to him, some of the victims in the school identified the two robbers, especially the youngster.

He said the armed robbers usually lay ambush near the Midwifery and Nursing Training College and pounce on female students, who are their main targets.

According to him, the armed robbers usually snatch the mobile phones and handbags of the female students and abscond.

The source complained about the spate of robberies in the area, adding that a student was stabbed by an armed robber last year.

He said the school’s authorities had engaged the services of the police and the community police assistants to beef up security in the area.

The source disclosed that despite the security measures in place, the robbers still rob female students of the school at knife-point.

“The arrest of the boy is welcoming since he has been describeds by victims as the main architect,” he added.
