Eight Nigerian artistes have earned nominations for the forthcoming Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards, an annual celebration recognising excellence in “music of black origin” in the UK.

MOBO’s Thursday announcement revealed that Adekunle Gold, Asake, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, Rema, and Wizkid are all contenders in the Best African Music Act category.

Additionally, Nigerian gospel singer, Samuel Onwubiko, aka Limoblaze, secured a nomination in the Best Gospel Act category.

MOBO Awards was established in 1996 to recognise and celebrate artistes who create black or urban music. The MOBO Awards show is held annually in the United Kingdom.

The UK’s biggest music awards ceremony, which will take place on February 7, 2024 at the Utilita Arena Sheffield, will be streamed live on YouTube and other social media platforms as well as BBC.

For more than two decades, the ceremony has served as the top honour for the music of black origin in the UK, honouring achievements in hip hop, grime, R&B, soul, reggae, jazz, gospel, and African music.
