Car Snatcher Granted Bail

Ebenezer Ayensu

The Amasaman Circuit Court has granted bail to Ebenezer Ayensu who is suspected to be part of a car snatching syndicate operating at Sowutuom and Amasaman in Accra.

The accused person, who was arrested on July 25, 2018 by the Sowutuom Police, was granted bail in the sum of GHC50,000 with two sureties by the court, presided over by Patricia Quansah.

The police are currently on the heels of his accomplices who are believed to be hiding at Sowutoum.

A Kia Picanto with registration number GW 7282-17 believed to have been snatched by the accused and his cohorts is in the custody of the police that are investigating the matter.

Prosecution said Ayensu was arrested by the Sowutoum Police based on intelligence.

When a search was conducted on him by the police, they found a handbag containing two new kitchen knives, cello tape, ash toy pistol, green leaves, an afro cap, three black rubber strips, eight slot plastic disc cap, a blue T shirt and bunch of keys.

The prosecution said the accused, who denied wrongdoing, stated that somebody gave him the bag to be given to a friend but failed to disclose the identity of the person.

On August 4, 2018, the prosecution said the police retrieved the Kia Picanto car with registration number 7282-17 at Amanfrom, near Amasaman.

Upon interrogation, the accused person claimed the vehicle belonged to his sister named Caro, who is based in South Korea, but information from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) at Weija Office revealed that the vehicle was registered by one Agyei Kwame Acheampong and the registration number belonged to a Daewoo Matix taxi.
