Cargo Truck Kills 3 In K’si

 

A MOVING Man Diesel Cargo Truck suddenly failed its brakes and killed three people at Tafo New Road in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The accident, reportedly, happened around 11:45am on Friday, November 3, 2023, a Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police report has said.

It disclosed that bodies of the three deceased persons, who are all males, have since been deposited at the Tafo Ebenezer Morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The dead persons have been identified by the police as Kofi Gyamfi, Abu-Banda Asuma, 51 years old and Osman Abubakar, who is 20 years old.

According to the police report, one Ibrahim Gafaru, aged 28 years old, was in charge of the Man Diesel Cargo Truck, with registration number GN 3054-16.

The Accra to Tamale-bound truck was loaded with spare parts but upon reaching Tafo New Road, near Kwasi Oppong Junction, it developed a faulty brake.

“He allegedly had a brake failure, lost control of the vehicle, veered off his driving lane into an oncoming vehicular lane and knocked down one Kofi Gyamfi, a pedestrian, killing him on the spot.

“It further went ahead, crashed head on with a Hyundai Santa Fe car with trade license DV 2102J-23 then driven by Abu-Banda Asuma, 51 years old and his son, one Abubakar Osman, also aged 20 years onboard.

“Occupants of the Hyundai Santa Fe car sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Tafo Government Hospital where victim Abu-Banda Asuma was pronounced dead”, the police report said.

Victim Abubakar Osman, the report added, was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Emergency and Accident Center for treatment but he also died shortly after arrival.

Both accident vehicles have been impounded at the police station for testing.
