As part of activities marking Eid-ul Adha, Lieutenant General Obed

Akwa, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has donated a bull and cash of GH¢2,000 towards the celebration.

Lt General Akwa made donation to Major Najmu-Deen A. Mohammed, acting

Chief Imam at the Al-Aziz Central Mosque at Burma Camp ahead of the Eid-ul Adha prayers.

Addressing the congregation, the CDS urged members of the Muslim community to use the exhortations from the various places of worship to reform, amend their conduct and love one another as professionals.

He asked them to pray for all departed colleagues and compatriots, adding that “Remember to also pray for our comrades on peacekeeping operations all over the world who are contributing to international peace and security.”

A former CDS and Defence Minister, Lt Gen Henry Smith, who also worshipped at the mosque, presented a cow to the congregation.

Major Najmu-Deen A. Mohammed urged Muslims to enhance brotherly love to ensure peaceful coexistence.

He said there was the need for Muslims to help in fostering peace in the country through their words and deeds since the religion stands for peace in all circumstances.

Major Mohammed was speaking in an interview with Ghana News

Agency during this year’s Eidul-Adha celebration at Burma Camp on the

theme, “Brotherhood of Muslims.”

“If there is no unity among Muslims and we do things that have the tendency to separate us then we shall never achieve success in any endeavour we may embark on.”

He, therefore, called on all Muslims “to come together, be each other’s keeper, love one another for the sake of Allah so

that the unity will transform them.”

He urged Muslims, especially the youth, to eschew violent acts and be obedient to their leaders.

Colonel Zibrim Ayorrogo, the Chairman of the Al-Aziz Central Mosque, explained that during Eid-ul Adha, all Muslims gather to pray together for the country, leadership and peace, a day after prayers are said in the central Mosque in Mecca.

“No prayer is said at the smaller mosques but all Muslims meet at central mosques to thank Allah for His greatness on this occasion,” he added.
