The Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has donated food items and cash of GH?2,000 to the Egyam Orphanage in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region.
The donation formed part of an initiative by Ms Osei-Opare, the country’s first female Chief of Staff, to support the poor, needy and underprivileged in the society.
The items included 40 bags of rice, five gallons of cooking, six buckets of washing powder and toiletries.
The Chief of Staff also made similar donations to some asylums, orphanages and special schools across the country.
The gesture, according to the Political Affairs Director of the Office of the Chief of Staff, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly called ‘Protozoa’, was aimed at addressing the challenges of the institutions and put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the society.
He indicated that the Chief of Staff deemed it prudent to support the vulnerable in society.
“The Chief of Staff has a development background. She has worked with an NGO before, and she feels there is a need for society to support the challenged and the vulnerable”.
“The Chief of Staff has been offering a lot of support to our brothers and sisters, who are challenged in one way or the other in our society,” he revealed.
Making the presentation on behalf of the Chief of Staff, Gifty Eugenia Kusi, Deputy Western Regional Minister said, “This is to show the kindness and love the Chief of Staff has for the orphans.”
Receiving the items, Sister Mary Boakye, Director of the Orphanage, thanked the team for the kind gesture and said she was overwhelmed by the love and compassion shown by the Chief of Staff.
