Chief Praises Nana Over Galamsey Ban

Nana Kwabena Amenemah II

The Chief of Asankran-Breman in the Amenfi West Municipality, Nana Kwabena Amenemah II, has heaped tons of praises on President Akufo- Addo for banning illegal mining also called ‘Galamsey’.

He commended the President saying, “Ghana, Asankragwaman, Wassa Amenfiman and Enchiman are grateful to you. If God had not made you President, all our water bodies would have been destroyed by now”.

“Before you came into office, there was no way we could drink from our rivers and streams.

“However, today, as a result of your fight against ‘Galamsey’, we are able to do so. We thank you, President Akufo-Addo and your government, for making this possible”, the chief told the President.

The chief stated this when the President visited Breman on Saturday to cut the sod for the construction of a 25-kilometre Asankragwa-Fordjuorkrom road as part of his three-day tour in the Western Region.

The Breman chief was confident that the days when miners destroyed water bodies and lands were over.

“We are certain that the policies and measures you are putting in place, during the period of the ban on small scale mining, will mean that the destruction of our water bodies and vegetation by miners will end.

“As chiefs, we will also make sure that small scale miners do not destroy our lands or pollute our water bodies,” Nana Kwabena Amenemah II assured the President.

The chief of Breman noted that the people of Wassa Amenfi and Ghana in general were aware of the achievements of President Akufo-Addo and his government in less than two years.

“The amount of work done and the achievements chalked up by this government in just one and half years of being in office surpasses the four-year work done by some other governments,”

The chief noted that under President Akufo-Addo’s government, school-going children who had completed Junior High School with financial difficulties can now continue their education under the free Senior High School (SHS) propramme.

“Prior to the programme, a brilliant student was sometimes denied the chance to go to school because the parents are poor,” he indicated.

“Today, this is not the case because under  the government of President Akufo-Addo, free SHS is now here with us, and we have to commend the President and his government,” he added.

The Breman chief praised President Akufo-Addo for upgrading Amenfi West from a district to a municipality.

He again lauded the NPP government for fulfilling his campaign pledge of constructing the 25-kilometre Asankragwa-Fordjuorkrom road.

He added, “No government in the history of Ghana has done the things President Akufo-Addo has done within one and half years. As a result of the President’s achievements, I, Nana Kwabena Amenamah II, chief of Asankran-Breman, confer the title ‘Oseadeayor’ (the one who promises and fulfills) to the name of President Akufo-Addo”.

”Henceforth, our President is called Oseadeayor Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the first. Nana, we are very pleased with your government’s achievements “, he concluded.
