BEACHES in the Greater Accra Region will be closed to the public during the Christmas and new year festivities as part of measures to contain and curtail the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
At a Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and stakeholders meeting, series of deliberations were held on strategies to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the wake of its increased spread lately in the region and other parts of the country.
The Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, who chaired the meeting, led the deliberations in which stakeholders including managers and officials of beaches took turns to express their concerns with respect to the subject under discussion.
Following the deliberations, the house voted on whether or not the beaches should be closed down during the festive period at the end of which majority of the house voted in favour of the motion to have the beaches closed.
The Regional Minister then announced that with immediate effect, the beaches would be closed down during the festive period.
