The collapsed structure. INSET: One of the injured persons receiving treatment at the Ga South Municipal hospital

At least 15 people sustained various degrees of injury when an uncompleted church building they were worshipping in caved in at Gbawe-Borla in the Ga South municipality.

The victims, mainly women and children with only three males, were congregants of Christ Life Ministry headed by Apostle Samuel Binney.

Eyewitness account indicated that the incident occurred around 11am during the torrential rain which swept through the capital Sunday morning.

Some of the injured were sent to the Ga South Municipal Hospital while three members whose conditions were critical, were referred to the Korle- Bu Teaching Hospital.

A resident who lives close to the church told this paper at the scene that the church has been in the area for years now.

Sunday morning, many people could not go to church due to the rains and so the number that came was about forty.

The church is still under construction but the members had constructed a wooden structure inside the building and were using it for worship.

He said some members were worshipping in the building Sunday morning when the rain started.

The heavy rainstorm brought down the wooden structure which fell on some of the congregants.

The Odorkor Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel K. Alordy, who was at the scene with his men, told this paper that Apostle Samuel Binney reported to the police after the incident had occurred.

When the police visited the scene, the victims had already been sent to the various hospitals and so an investigator was sent to go to the various hospitals to check on their conditions.

He said the police had started their investigation and if it proved that the accident happened as a result of negligence on the part of anybody, that person would be held culpable.
