The Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management (CISCM) held its maiden investiture and induction ceremony over the weekend.
One hundred and seventy members, 75 subject matter experts and eight fellows were inducted at the event.
Richard Obeng Okrah, President of the Institute, in his address, said plans to place greater emphasis on the training of Supply Chain leaders to ensure value for money were ongoing.
“The mission of the Institute is to promote greater recognition of end-to-end Supply Chain Management through sound leadership, research, training, engagements and ethical professional service for sustainable development and growth,” he said.
Speaking on the theme, ‘The Role of Integrated Supply Chain Management in Ghana Beyond Aid’ Joe Ghartey, Minister for Railway Development, who was the special guest of honour said, “It’s an undeniable fact that the Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management has an important role in Ghana.”
He challenged the CISCM to provide alternative Supply Chain mitigating strategies to enable the country to mobilize taxes effectively.
He further called on CISCM to, as a matter of urgency, cooperate with government to achieve sustainable outcomes in critical areas.
“As you all know, my ministry has been tasked with ensuring the rapid development of a modern rail network in Ghana and then connection to the landlord neighboring countries. This daunting task can be supported by CISCM and for that matter, professionals in Supply Chain, to get projects executed optimally and on time,” the minister said.
Kweku Andoh Awotwi, the Managing Director of Tullow Oil Ltd, who was the main speaker, stressed the importance of using effective supply chain management methods, systems and processes to ensure value for money.
At the end of the ceremony, a Honorary Fellowship was conferred on eight eminent members who have excelled.
They were Joe Ghartey, Agyenim Boateng Adjei, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Public Procurement Authority Ghana, Kweku Andoh Awotwi, Professor Aba Bentil Andam, Professor Esther Sakyi-Dawson, Dr Theresa Oppong Beeko, CEO of Manet Housing Ltd, Emmanuel T Antwi-Darkwah, CEO of Volta River Authority and Joseph Siaw-Agyepong, Executive Chairman, Jospong Group of Companies.
