The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has urged all registered Ghanaian voters to participate in the on-going Voters’ Register Exhibition exercise in order to help the electoral commission clean up and compile a credible register for upcoming elections.
The 8-day nationwide exercise, which started on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, is aimed at providing all registered voters from 2012 to 2019, the opportunity to verify and authenticate their registration details.
In a released statement signed by the CODEO National Coordinator, Albert Arhin, the coalition has called for the support of all Ghanaians in ensuring the EC compiles a credible Voters’ Register ahead of upcoming elections.
“Ghanaians are to assist the EC by volunteering information about deceased relatives, friends and community members to EC exhibition officials to enable them expunge names of such persons from the Voters’ Register.
“CODEO believes that, electoral credibility requires collective efforts and citizens’ participation to the attainment of credible electoral outcomes” the statement read.
On December 17 2019, the EC is expected to simultaneously hold a referendum on active participation of political parties in local government elections and a district level election where Ghanaians would select local government representatives.
The observer group has also urged the media to create more awareness on the exhibition exercise in order to solicit response and increase participation.
