Cofie (L) with Agyemang Badu and Stephen Appiah
Ghana midfielder, Isaac ‘workaholic’ Cofie, says the effort and impact of the likes of Sam Johnson, Augustine Arhinful, Yaw Preko, Stephen Appiah, among others who blazed the trail in the Turkish league ahead of them, remain a blessing.
The Sivasspor lad says the reference of how they played for their respective clubs selflessly, which eventually made them poster boys in Turkey, helped open and ease the way for them; the present generation.
He said, “Obviously they had set out to go and do their job…but their craze to keep going and giving off their very best has done some of us a lot of good. We can imagine how difficult it would have been without these pathfinders…
“When we get to meet during summer breaks, it is obvious that those in less travelled league have a tough time coping and sometimes eventually cut short their stay due to challenges, that those forebears have helped us cut here.
“I cannot help but to say thanks to the legend, we have taken a note from your journey and are paying it forward for the younger ones too.”
Cofie, who is playing his fourth year in the Turkish Super league, and his mates slugged it out in a friendly, were a delight to watch; the match won by 2-0 against Al Shamal FC few days ago.
‘The workaholic’ as he is affectionately known, says the training regimen has been going good so far, and that he and his mates are making the needed progress for the very busy season ahead.
The team will scale up the final stage of preparations out of Turkey to Austria next week.
The team will be expected to earn the right to defend their Turkish cup title by the end of the 12-day stay in Vienna. The league and Europa is the other pair they have set their sights on winning this season.
Ghana forward Benjamin Tetteh, according to report, remains a hot target to bolster the attack of the side. With an impressive run of play in last season for Trabzonspor, Tetteh will be expected to light up the side with more goals if he makes the move.
Sivasspor has been home for some Ghanaian players in the past, including John Boye.
