Community Members Attack School Teachers

Teachers of Assorko Cluster of Schools in the Shama District of the Western Region were forced to end teaching abruptly yesterday.

This was after some perceived angry youth in the area stormed the school and forcibly locked the classrooms.

The idea behind their action was not immediately known, but according to sources, the youth in the community attacked the teachers for alleged poor academic performances of the pupils.

“Some teachers were teaching while others were interacting with the little ones during a brief ‘My First Day at School’ ceremony.

“All of a sudden, some of the youth stormed the area and ordered the teachers to come out,” one of the residents narrated.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that immediately, all the teachers withdrew their services.

The paper gathered that the youth forcibly locked up the headmistress office and other classrooms.

DAILY GUIDE also gathered that the school has officially informed the Shama District Education Directorate about the incident.

When DAILY GUIDE called the Assembly Member for the electoral area, Aidoo Marfo, he noted that he did not have the details as to why the youth allegedly took that action.

He said he also heard the incident early yesterday morning and went to one of the schools and realised that it was closed.

“But I met some of the teachers at the school premises and in an interaction they told me that some of the youth came there to close down the school.

“Because I did not meet the youth, I could not know their basis for their action, and the teachers also could not tell,” he indicated.
