Construction Of New Fire Training School Begins

The MP breaks ground to construct KG block at Duayaw Nkwanta Presby B JHS and Primary

GOVERNMENT has begun construction work on a Fire Service Training School at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Tano North Municipality of Ahafo Region.

The project, which will take six months to complete, was inspected by the Tano North Member of Parliament, Freda Akosua Prempeh last Tuesday. She was satisfied with the speed at which the work was going.

The project being executed by Kabore Company limited includes two-storey building dormitories each for male and females,  administration block, classroom block,  dinning hall and kitchen, according to the site foreman, Hassan Alhassan.

The MP, who is also a Minister of State at the Presidency and a member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, expressed joy the project has finally taken off and commended the government for providing resources for construction to begin.

“The idea to have a fire training school at Duayaw Nkwanta was conceived during the time of the former Chief Fire Officer, Albert Brown Gaise, but due to resource constraints it remained on the drawing board till this government under President Akufo-Addo found resources to begin it.

“As the MP for the area and an interested party, I also needed to apply my lobbying skills for it to start,” Madam Prempeh disclosed.

She implored the contractor to do a good work and execute it on schedule to ensure value for money.

When completed, the Duayaw Nkwanta Fire Training School will train recruits from the northern zones of the country.  Currently, the Ghana Fire Service has only one training school at James Town in Accra, though according to insider sources, government intends to construct fire service training schools in all sixteen regions of the country.

The MP, as part of her duty tour, also inspected other projects she is undertaking in the Tano North Constituency and further cut sods for construction KG blocks at Duayaw Nkwanta Presby B JHS and Primary at a cost of  GH¢567,000 and another at Kofi Nkraekrom where toddlers walk two miles to access school at the next town.

The chief of Nkraekrom, parents and community members at the cocoa-growing area were delighted to see a campaign promise come true.

Residents of Duayaw Nkwanta Zongo equally expressed gratitude to the government and the MP for constructing two storm drains to control gulley erosion that has bedeviled the community for ages.
