The World Barbecue Africa Championship expected to take place in Ghana this year has been postponed indefinitely due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country and around the globe.
About 20 countries drawn from Africa, Europe, North and South America were expected to be represented in Ghana for the Championship.
The Championship was slated for April 29th – 1st May, 2020 in Accra.
But in a statement signed by the World Barbecue African Ambassador, Doris Eyram Lumor, the Ghana Barbecue Association stated that “the postponement is as result of the current outbreak of the COVID-19(Coronavirus) disease which has also reached Ghana with seven confirmed cases so far.
The Association noted in the statement that “We prioritize the health and safety of our participants and as has been announced by the government of Ghana, travel to the country at the moment is discouraged with persons coming from countries with confirmed cases of Coronavirus not allowed into the country.”
It said “We shall continue to monitor the situation as we deliberate on a new date for the event.”
It expressed its profound regret for any inconvenience this postponement will cause.
Meanwhile, the Association has urged the barbecue fraternity and the general public to keep safe by observing basic hygiene as the world works to beat this virus.
