The Tamale District Magistrate Court, presided over by Amadu Seidu, has remanded four persons into prisons custody in connection with the fatal shooting and killing of Corporal Agartha Nana Nabin.
The suspects who have been charged are Nash Isaahaku, Zulika Abduallah, Issahaku Yakubu Kanbon-Naa and Mahama Nashiru. The three were yesterday brought for trial by a heavily armed police team.
Yakubu Kanbon-Naa was, however, not in court because he was said to be on admission at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
They were charged with conspiracy, murder, possession of fire arms and possession of military accoutrements and were taken into police custody to reappear on the 22nd August 2018 for the commencement of the case.
The prosecutor, Inspector Victor Kwafo, had pleaded with the court to remand the suspects for them to conduct further investigations, but the facts of the case were not read neither was their plea taken.
The prosecutor also brought to the court three locally manufactured guns and some locally made knives allegedly retrieved from the suspects.
Counsel for the suspects, Sylvester Essang, pleaded with the court to grant his clients bail but the judge rejected the request.
Over 15 armed police officers were deployed to the court while a large crowd trooped to the premises to catch a glimpse of the suspects who are alleged to have murdered the policewoman.
The law enforcement officers involved in the arrest operation reportedly fired and wounded one of the suspects.
Following the gruesome killing of the female police officer at a checkpoint on the Kumbungu-Tamale road last Tuesday, the suspects were arrested on Thursday after a special police operation.
In the process, one of the suspects sustained injuries during the operation to arrest him and his accomplices.
Earlier, a bounty of GH¢10,000 was announced for information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects; it is unknown though, whether the success of the police operation was as a result of a tip-off by a whistleblower.
DAILY GUIDE has learnt about telltale items retrieved from the suspects. Among them were camouflage uniforms which the suspects were said to have donned when they got to the checkpoint and fatally shot the policewoman.
The exhibits were found in a room belonging to one of the suspects.
Burial Arrangement
The family members of the murdered policewoman have set 24th August 2019 as the burial date for the deceased.
The family will hold a vigil for the deceased on the 23rd August at the family house in Tamale and the next day a mass will be held at the Holy Cross Parish Roman Catholic Church in Tamale and the final funeral rites held at the jubilee park in Tamale.
