Cracks In Essikado-Ketan NDC: Key Member Goes Independent

Obed Bosuntwi Sam

There is currently confusion within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Essikado-Ketan Constituency of the Western Region, which is likely to affect the party’s quest to win the seat from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming general election.

DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the party faces a herculean task of mending internal cracks currently.

The confusion follows the emergence of an independent parliamentary candidate, Apostle Obed Bosuntwi Sam, who was previously an integral member of the NDC in the constituency, for reasons that are yet to be known.

The NDC has never won the Essikado-Ketan seat since it was created out of the Sekondi Constituency in 2004.

The only time the NDC came close was in the last general election, when New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Joe Ghartey had 26,701 and the NDC’s candidate, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah garnered 24,527.

It is not immediately known what may have triggered the former NDC kingpin, Apostle Obed Bosuntwi Sam, founder of Divine Power Prophetic Ministry to make a sudden U-turn against the party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah.

Addressing journalists at Kojokrom in the constituency, the aggrieved NDC member who once contested the position of Deputy NDC Communications officer in the area said, “Looking at what is currently going on in Essikado-Ketan NDC, I don’t think my party can win the seat.”

“So it is better for me to stand as an independent candidate and to save my party, NDC,” he noted.

He told journalists that he was committed to bringing positive change and sustainable development to Essikado.

He also said when elected, among his aims would be to enhance educational opportunities for all children in the constituency by providing scholarships and financial support to the underprivileged students.

“I will also work to ensure that educational facilities are well-equipped and that teachers are supported to deliver quality education,” he added.

He also expressed his commitment to improving the road network in the constituency, and ensuring they are safe and accessible for all.

“Furthermore, I will advocate for better healthcare facilities and services, and strive for a healthcare system that meets the community’s needs with compassion and efficiency.

“Our youth are our future, and their potential deserves to be nurtured. I will initiate and support programmes that will help young people in our community discover and develop their talents.

“Whether in sports, arts, or entrepreneurship, my commitment is to provide platform and resources that allow our youth to shine,” he indicated.

He said employment opportunities are crucial for economic stability, adding, “I pledge to support initiatives that create jobs in our communities.”

“This includes promoting local businesses and attracting investment. I will also drive efforts to establish skills training programmes that will empower our workforce with the necessary tools to thrive in today’s job market,” he stressed.
