The Late Daddy Lumba
Another disagreement is emerging within the family of late highlife musician, Daddy Lumba, over plans to commemorate the first anniversary of his death.
One faction, led by Victor Kofi Owusu, popularly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac, says preparations are underway to hold a one-year memorial on July 26, 2026.
The event, according to him, will also include customary rites for the late musician’s widow, Odo Broni.
Speaking in an interview with veteran musician Slimbuster, Tupac insisted that the programme would go ahead as planned.
“Anyone who is ready for us to work together is welcome, but if you’re not, don’t interfere. No one can stop the one-year anniversary celebration,” he said.
He also appealed to Daddy Lumba’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, his sister, Ernestina Fosu, and other family members to put aside their differences and unite in honour of the late musician.
However, another faction of the family, led by Nana Kwabena Brefo, has rejected the planned event, insisting that Tupac has no authority to speak on behalf of the family.
According to the group, issues surrounding the family’s leadership are still before the courts, and no one has been authorised to organise activities or use Daddy Lumba’s name for any event.
“The family has not made any arrangements for a one-year anniversary celebration. We urge the public to disregard those claims because they are misleading,” Nana Kwabena Brefo said.
He added that the recognised family had not approved any memorial event and questioned how such a celebration could be organised when, according to him, they had not been informed of the exact location where Daddy Lumba was buried.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, died on July 26, 2025, after a short illness.
