Sulemana Mohammed Dawuni donating to the Tamale Central Prison
The Dakpema regent, Sulemana Mohammed Dawuni, son of the late Dakpema Naa, Dawuni Alhassan, has donated some food, drinks and other items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the Tamale Central Prison (TCP) inmates to celebrate this year’s Eid.
This donation forms part of a yearly tradition performed by the late father of the regent for the inmates of the prison during Eid celebration.
According to the Dakpema regent, most of the inmates normally feel lonely in the prison and that the presence of his delegation and the donations would make them feel the love and care of the people outside the prison yard.
He noticed that conditions in the prison are not up to expectation; hence he called on government and other philanthropists to come to the aid of the prison.
The Dakpema regent urged the youth in the region not to engage in criminality or lawlessness so that they could have a better life which would be beneficial to their families and the country as a whole.
The Public Relations Officer of TCP, ASP David Afatsawu, who received the donation on behalf of the inmates, thanked the regent for the good gesture and assured him that it would be used accordingly.
However, he appealed to individuals, NGOs and other institutions to come to the aid of the prison, adding “government has done a lot but cannot do everything on its own”.
The Northern Sector Manager of Marie Stopes, Madam Patricia Antwi, said the company is into sexual and reproductive health care and that they educated the inmates of the TCP about family planning and Hepatitis B.
“Hepatitis B is a sexually transmitted disease and can easily spread among people who live together and share items together so we decided to educate them on the dangers associated with it,” she revealed.
