Danfa Chiefs Demand SHS

The chiefs and elders planting the caution posts

The chiefs, queenmothers, elders and people of Danfa and adjoining communities in the La Nkwantang Madina Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region have appealed to President Akufo-Addo to site a senior high school (SHS) in the area to take care of their secondary educational needs.

Nii Neequaye Amassah, an elder who represented the chief of Danfa, Nii Afutu Brempong, during the clearance of six (6) acres of land earmarked for the SHS by the community, opined that the four chiefs, queenmothers and family heads among others forming the Danfa catchment area in appreciating the value of secondary education for their people have made this initial move and will cooperate with government for the successful implementation of the SHS project.

“We are worried that our catchment area which comprises Kweiman, Danfa, Otinibi, Amrahia and Adoteyman among a number of settler communities cannot boast of a second cycle institution, making our children travel outside to access quality education,” he remarked.

He also warned that any act of encroachment on the earmarked land would not be taken kindly; he urged residents to play active roles as watchdogs over the property while they await government to take over the land.

The elder, while commending the President for his passion to ensure that every child of school-going age benefits from quality education, explained that the local committee on the development of education in the area – which comprises the representatives from the four communities – has made the initial move of having discussion with the municipal assembly and officials of the education department on the subject over the years.

He further urged officials from government, the assembly and the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) among other stakeholders to follow up on the request so that the project can win government endorsement at the shortest possible time.

Nii Neequaye Amassah also appealed to the President to upgrade the Danfa Health Centre to a hospital to merit its original purpose and function as a model medical facility, adding that the major road from Ayimensah to Amarhia is in a deplorable state and needs resurfacing.
