Danger Looms On Takoradi’s Axim Road

SOME RESIDENTS along the Axim road in Takoradi have complained about the danger posed by some median blocks lying in wrong positions in the middle of the road.

The heavy blocks, painted in red and white colours, have been placed in the middle of the road from Mankessim White House to the Takoradi Beach Road Roundabout, also referred to as ‘Axim road’.

The blocks serve as a partition between the opposite lanes.

However, some of these heavy blocks have been pushed onto the road and could cause vehicular accidents.

They asserted that even though the situation has resulted in some serious accidents, the authorities have done nothing about the situation.

When DAILY GUIDE visited a spot along the road over the weekend, some of the blocks have fallen on to the lanes and could pose great danger to motorists, particularly at night.

The residents have expressed frustration at the development, and wondered what the authorities want to see happen on the road before they act.

Some of them remarked, “We are only watching, and when there is a serious incident, definitely the authorities will take the appropriate action.”

One of the residents, who gave his name only as Mawuli, said the authorities do not care about what happens to people on that stretch of the road.

Meanwhile, a source at the Ghana Highways Authority has hinted that personnel would move in very soon to reposition the blocks and clear the ones on the road.
