The two Mitsubishi Pajero donated to the Naval Command

The Government of Denmark through the Royal Danish Embassy has donated two newly purchased Mitsubishi Pajero vehicles to the Ghana Navy.

This is to support the Special Boat Squadron Development project as part of the Danish Maritime Security Programme in the Gulf of Guinea.

Addressing the gathering, the Danish Ambassador to Ghana, Tom Norring said the purchase of the two vehicles was an idea born out of a recent report which revealed that chunks of money were spent on the rental of cars for basic operative course by the Special Boat Squadron.

“To reduce the issue of spending much on rentals we decided to purchase cars from Danish Project money and supplement this with drivers from the Ghana Navy. This will be of significant benefit to Navy and maritime security in the region”.

On his part, the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu acknowledged the Danish government’s unwavering commitment to the fight against maritime security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea.

He said the Danish Naval Special Welfare Group, the United States African Command and the Ghana Navy formed a trilateral partnership to develop the Ghana Navy Special Boat Squadron consisting of an elite force well trained and equipped to conduct all kinds of maritime operations.

“Developing and sustaining a specialized force in the Ghana Navy has become very necessary due to increasing economic activities in our maritime domain. This has led to accompanying dynamics involving complex and asymmetric maritime security challenges.

Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu also emphasized that the donation of vehicles supports the development of the project. This is just one of the numerous supports the Special Boat Squadron has received from the Danish government over the last two years.
