Nigerian music star D’banj and wife have lost their adorable one-year-old son, Daniel Oyebanjo.

According to local media reports, the child drowned in a pool at D’banj’s home in Lagos on Sunday.

He was in Los Angeles attending the 2018 BET Awards ceremony when he received the sad news.

On Sunday, he posted a black image on his Instagram page with an accompanying tribute saying, “Trying Times. But my God is Always and Forever Faithful.”

A number of other stars on the African continent and beyond joined their friend in solidarity as they took to social media to mourn with him.

“Pls (please) join me in saying this prayer as we commiserate with the Oyebanjo family at this time. We can never fully understand the pain of others but every little prayer helps. @iambangalee our hearts break with yours. Stay strong my dear,” Genevieve Nnaji said on Instagram.

“Sending prayers up for @iambangalee, his wife and their entire family. This is a nightmare. Heart wrenching news. May God strengthen and comfort y’all in this absolutely terrible time, in Jesus name,” Banky W said.

“Heartfelt condolences to Dbanj and his family.  Words can never be enough. Stay strong @iambangalee,” Peter of P-Square also said.

The rest included Ghana’s Yvonne Nelson, Promzy of VIP fame, Mr Eazi and a host of others.

D’banj is one of Africa’s big Afro-pop stars. He gained world fame for his 2012 hit, ‘Oliver Twist’.

He calls himself ‘Koko master’ which could mean a variety of things from being the ‘boss’, ‘lover’ and the ‘main topic’.

His music is a mix of Yoruba, English and Pidgin.

D’banj, whose real name is Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, became a father in May 2017, and posted regular pictures of his son, Daniel Oyebanjo III.

His last picture was on Fathers’ Day on July 17 of him changing his son’s nappy.

The thirty-eight-year old singer is an entrepreneur and television personality. He was voted best African Artist at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007 and Best-selling African Artiste at the 2014 World Music Awards. His ‘Oliver Twist’ hit won him international fame.
