In an effort to ensure a peaceful and successful presidential election, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given its full support to the Ghana Police Service to deal with any troublemaker before, during, and after the party’s election scheduled for November 4, 2023.
The NPP has agreed to allow the Ghana Police to take complete control of security measures during the election proceedings.
During a meeting involving representatives from both parties, the Chairman of the Presidential Election Committee, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, urged the police to enforce the law and handle any individuals who engage in misconduct during the elections.
He stated, “We are authorising you to take absolute control of all the processes that you regulate during normal elections in this republic. Anyone who disregards the guidelines that the candidates have signed should be dealt with. We want to establish that this country is a lawful nation.”
In response, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, assured the NPP of an “overdose of security” on November 4.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the police and the political party to ensure the diligent execution of their duties. “All we require from you is your support to ensure that the police will do their work,” Dr. Dampare stated.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations at the Electoral Commission, Samuel Tetteh, expressed confidence in the ongoing preparations to guarantee a smooth election process.
He acknowledged the significance of the upcoming election for both the NPP and the country as a whole, and emphasized the need for thorough preparations. “We are not leaving any stone unturned,” he noted.
With the NPP’s support for the Ghana Police Service and the ongoing collaboration between stakeholders, hopes are high for a successful and peaceful presidential election on November 4, 2023.
The parties involved are determined to maintain law and order, ensuring that the election process is conducted smoothly.
