Prior to Ghana’s Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has approved at least 200 events, according to Jones Haruna Nelson, Head of Corporate Affairs for the GTA.
Over the past few years, Ghana has emerged as the go-to place for Ghanaians residing outside the country and those in the diaspora to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Speaking on Asaase Radio in Accra, Mr. Nelson stated that security precautions are also being taken to guarantee the safety of foreign visitors.
“This time, the events have turned into a draw in and of themselves, which is why we held December in Ghana in an attempt to capitalise on the activities and events we had. As of right now, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has approved over 200 events to be held in December and the first few days of January,” Mr. Nelson stated.
“In order to come together, we have also had interactions with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Tourism Federation, the Tour Operators Union, Ghana Hoteliers, and Tour Guides,” he disclosed, adding, “The security agencies have also had a role in this.”
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr.  George Akuffo Dampare has given assurance to Ghanaians and those living abroad that this year’s Christmas will be incident-free.
The IGP urged Ghanaians in the diaspora and other nationals to make Ghana their destination of choice as they will be fully protected.
