Members of Patriotic Intellectuals, a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group made up of some lecturers of the various tertiary institutions in the country have admonished the flagbearer hopeful of the party to defend the achievements of the government.
Addressing a press conference in Takoradi yesterday, Chairman of the Group, Michael Asare Appiah, also known as ‘Sasa’, said the party’s ability to break the eight-year rotational governance between the NPP and NDC would be based on the many achievements and legacies of the current Nana Addo-Bawumia led government.
According to him, it was therefore incumbent on all party activists including the flagbearer hopefuls to hold the party’s image in high esteem and be profoundly measured in their public pronouncements and in their engagements with party delegates during their campaigns.
“To be victorious in 2024 general elections, we must work together as a family to accomplish our superior goal of being the first political party to break the eight under the 1992 constitution dispensation”, he pointed out.
He said the party’s unity was imperative for the growth and development of the country adding, “This can only be achieved if all of us are ready to sacrifice our individual interests and work for the betterment of our party and the nation as a whole”.
“We must understand that the November 4 presidential primary of the NPP is an internal party election and there is no opposition or opponents but rather friendly competitors,” he said.
“Therefore, anything you cannot say after the party has elected a flagbearer on November 4, 2023, do not say it today”, he pointed out.
He praised the national executives of the NPP and the party’s Presidential Election Committee for the steps they have taken so far in addressing the alleged infractions that occurred during super delegates election.
“The Committee has done well for involving the remaining aspirants in the preparation of the new guidelines for the November 4 presidential primary of the party. We however, encourage them to hasten their pace in addressing all other outstanding issues pertaining to the super delegates election”, he stressed.
He commended supporters of Alan Kyeremanten who for party unity and belief to break the eight have thrown their support for one candidate or the other.
“We admonish all party members to treat all former supporters of Mr. Kyeremanten with all the dignity and respect deserving of bona fide members of the NPP.
We also urge other supporters of Alan who are yet to decide to, as a matter of necessity, do so in the interest of the great NPP and Osono family”, he added.
