John Mahama
The popular adage that “the bad workman always quarrels with his or her tools” reflects the persona of the NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama in an election year.
The man who has sat in the saddle for more than four years as the President of the Republic and even prior to that served as the Vice President, lacks the appreciation of the nuances of the governance process. Again John Mahama, his NDC and its other leaders manifest another popular saying that “those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.”
Since being driven into opposition over almost eight years, the apostles of probity and accountability have lost touch with their own principles and are on a kind of “promise-a-thon” just to win the trust of the electorate. The NDC lacks the capacity to claim that the leaders of the party are the better managers of the economy, when in actual fact its pride to have the Midas touch to rescue the economy is a mere mirage.
The NDC’s strategy, going into this year’s election, is to highlight the perceived failures of the NPP government in order to court public disaffection for the ruling party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Till date, John Mahama has not been able to put forth any social intervention policy, except to keep telling the electorate that Ghana requires a “reset”, although he is unable to tell the people how he hopes to achieve that target.
Fellow Ghanaians, we urge all to be vigilant in order to avoid the situation where any politician will attempt to mislead us again for the sake of their personal gains.
We will be the first to admit that Ghanaians are going through trying times, however, contrary to claims that President Akufo-Addo is a “wicked” person, the data and statistics on the world stage indicate that whatever the challenges, they did not arise for lack of trying.
At any forum that discloses the expenditure on COVID-19 such as free water, subsidised electricity, free hot meals, free immunisation, the lockdown when public offices and schools were closed, public sector workers were paid and COVID-19 victims received free treatment, a section of the audience will burst into prolonged laughter.
This happens because some of our people suffer from “short memories” as diagnosed by John Mahama. Although we all enjoyed the “freebies” during COVID-19, we have so soon forgotten the “philanthropy” of the Akufo-Addo government.
The President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo, knew the challenges that laid ahead when he made the famous statement, “we have what it takes to restore the health of the economy, but lack the capacity to restore anybody back to life”. That explained why President Akufo-Addo went the extra mile to spend our resources to sustain lives and property during the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.
The people, including John Mahama and his NDC, have never told the electorate whether they have the “magic wand” to have faced the COVID-19 in a different way.
This and other difficulties are the issues that John Mahama and his NDC are latching on to be given power again to throw us into another prolonged dumsor. In response to public pressure to share the NDC’s concept note on its flagship policy, the 24-hour economy, there was dissonance among NDC members from the grassroots to the leadership.
The last attempt made by John Mahama to explain his flagship policy to the understanding of the ordinary person, hell broke loose as the NDC flagbearer was fumbling with the issues to the extent that he said under the 24-hour economy, discotheque, restaurants and other hospitality joints will operate 24 hours.
Someone jokingly said in response to John Mahama’s nightclub 24-hour economy, “We are convinced John Mahama is facing an Indian spell, hence his inability to convince the people to vote for him.”
Former President Mahama, does not showcase himself as a statesman. We wonder whether when Ebola struck the sub-region and the international community extended help to Ghana he did share the funds among his NDC gangs like he said recently that, “We won’t allow NPP to share drought funds among themselves.” Really we wonder whether any stable person can make such a remark?
