Elikplim Akurugu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, stormed the District Electoral office on Tuesday, dressed in a red regalia to submit her nomination forms.
She was accompanied by her supporters and a brass band, who cheered her on as she showcased her dancing skills and warrior spirit, reminiscent of a fetish priestess preparing for battle.
While on her way to the EC office, Akurugu took to the streets, holding a robe like a fetish priestess, with her bodyguards by her side.
Her actions were met with enthusiasm and excitement from her supporters, who cheered her on as she made her way to the EC office.
After filling her forms, Akurugu expressed her confidence and determination, rooted in her past performance, where she increased the NDC’s vote share in the constituency from 29,392 in 2016 to 52,262 in 2020.
She believes that her hard work and community engagement will pay off this time around, and she is ready to take on the challenge of winning the seat.
Akurugu emphasized that the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency is not a dynasty, where a family’s name guarantees victory.
She criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to develop the constituency, adding that the current Member of Parliament (MP) has not done enough for the constituency and that it’s time for a change.
As the largest constituency in the country, with 172,000 voters, Dome-Kwabenya is a critical battleground in the upcoming elections.
She will be contesting with the NPP parliamentary candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr, in the general election.
