Donning The NDC Garment

The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken exception to the recent warped election analysis of the Speaker when he hosted an Ethiopian delegation.

The tone of the reaction speaks volumes about the scribe’s or his party’s impression of the head of the legislature which is anything but impressive.

That the scribe has called on the Speaker to be above partisan politics is something which has attracted our attention.

When a Speaker fails to cut an impressive image about himself and across political lines he has work to do failure to reverse which can impact worryingly on the work of the august House of Parliament.

We had earlier commented about the Speaker’s remarks when he said that opposition is not about fighting. That passed for a wonderful remark for which we asked that he counsels his part on.

We are however, given the other issues which cropped up during his interaction with the foreign visitors for which the scribe has slammed him disappointed regrettably that he should lose the shine so badly.

Things should not have degenerated so quickly.  When he assumed the office of Speaker many wondered whether he would be able to walk the tight rope of an impartial leader of the legislature, an impartial referee.

Emerging developments such as witnessed when he told his guests about an underhand dealing which changed the ratio of the NDC and the NPP numbers was in bad taste and unnecessary.

Such a remark was nothing but an extension of the NDC’s non-acceptance of the election 2020 results and its endorsement by the Supreme Court.

We could not agree more with the NPP Scribe that disregarding such remarks when they originate from a person holding the high office of head of the legislature cannot be an option. Were the remarks to be coming from persons who are deficient of the knowledge of governance and politics they could have been ignored without attracting a query.

When a Speaker remarks the way he is reported to have done especially to foreigners his motive is palpably sinister.

The scribe’s reaction has altered the impression about the Speaker being a personality who would not drag himself into the dirty political manouvres of the NDC which have over the years given local politics a bad image.

We do not know what the Speaker’s strange 2020 election analysis has deposited on the palates of members of the Ethiopian delegation.  They could be wondering how a Speaker, who should not be seen to be inclining towards one of the sides of the House to be openly doing so.
