Don’t Compare Me To Florence Obinim – Sarah Sarkodie

Sarah Sarkodie

New gospel entrant, Sarah Sarkodie, has revealed that she is no longer comfortable with how people are comparing her style to that of Florence Obinim’s.

According to her, she is having difficulties in dealing with accusations that she is copying Florence Obinim’s style.

She is, therefore, putting it on record that she is not imitating her senior colleague.

“Initially, I was enjoying it when people mistook me for Florence because she is one of the few artistes I respect and look up to but I think it is doing more harm than good to me,” she stated.

“I remember some time ago, I was taking my daughter to school when I heard my song being played on air. I was pleased to hear it but unfortunately, I heard two women saying it was Florence Obinim’s new song.  I wanted to correct them but I just had to let it go. Perhaps, I’m not doing enough to get my brand and name out there,” she added.

Sarah is described as a talented artiste signed to Cebex record label. She currently has an eight-track album titled ‘Osoro Akasa’ to her credit.  The songs on the album are ‘Onyame Woso’, ‘Onyame Ba’, ‘Atokuafre Nyame’, ‘Ne Tumi Ye Kese’, ‘Nyame Wo So’, ‘Kasameho’, ‘Yehowa Hu Me Mobo’ and ‘Memawoso Nyame’.

But her bane now is how people are mistaking her style for that of Florence Obinim’s. Others also think she is deliberately riding on the back of Florence Obinim to be famous.

But she denied it, saying, “Why would I deliberately copy someone’s style because I want to be like her? Those who know me will attest that this has been my voice all these years that I have been singing in choirs and churches. I don’t know whether to see it as a blessing or a curse to be identified with Florence.”
