‘Don’t Just Be Housewives, Work Hard’

Gifty Eugenia Kusi

A FORMER Deputy Western Regional Minister, Gifty Eugenia Kusi, has charged Christian women to give of their best and work harder to support their husbands and fend for their respective families.

Mrs. Gifty Kusi, who is a former Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, stated this in an interview with DAILY GUIDE during a convention of the women’s wing of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) in the region.

It was on the theme “Rise Up Woman; This Matter is in Your Hands. Be of Good Courage; You Can Do It.”

She said although women face lots of challenges such as being a wife, mother, taking care of the home and been a worker, they need to work harder to help their husbands and children.

The former minister, who is the Secretary to the GPCC women’s wing, encouraged Ghanaian women to continue to support their families and the country at large with the knowledge and skills God has endowed them with.

Rev. Mrs. Elizabeth Akuaku, member of the GPCC Coordinating Council for the Western Region, noted that the role played by women in churches and the country cannot be overemphasised.

She mentioned that in the Bible, whenever there was crisis, God looked for women to stand in.

“Now that the whole world is facing some kind of challenges, Christian women should turn to God and intercede for our country apart from working to help improve the economy,” she added.

She said even though the GPCC had been in existence for about 50 years, the women’s wing had not been effective, hence the need for the programme.

She stressed the need for Christian women to keep their faith alive, so that through their exemplary lifestyle, others could be won into the Christian faith.

Dr. Bertha Dansoa, a lecturer at Takoradi Technical University, who spoke on the role of Ghanaian women and the economy, admonished Christian women to be virtuous as well as industrious.

She was full of praise for working mothers, and pointed out that their labour will not be in vain but, surely, be rewarded.
