ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi
Director of Communications for the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, has issued a stern warning to hooligans engaging in vandalism across the country, following an incident in which one police officer sustained injuries during a joint operation with military personnel.
Despite facing extreme provocation, ACP Ansah-Akrofi emphasised that officers have refrained from using firearms.
“Today, we have recorded numerous incidents of lawlessness and violence in various locations,” she stated, underscoring the ongoing efforts of security agencies under the National Election Security Taskforce to maintain peace and order in the post-election period.
The police and military collaboration has been crucial in restoring law and order in several instances, including a recent disturbance at Ghana Gas and another at the Ghana Petroleum Authority, where protesters demanded jobs.
A similar situation also occurred at the passport office, where individuals rallied for employment opportunities.
“There was also a crowd that formed around the Cantonment area, and the intervention of the police working alongside the military helped to disperse the gathering,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi noted.
In addition to these incidents, she revealed that some suspected criminals had been released from a police station, prompting an ongoing intelligence operation to apprehend them.
“So far, no firearms have been used. However, they should not push us. Our officers are prepared to respond appropriately, according to the law, to ensure that the peace of this country is not taken for granted,” she asserted.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi also announced that 10 additional individuals have been arrested in connection with acts of lawlessness and vandalism, bringing the total number of arrests to 107.
