‘Don’t Put Pressure On Akufo-Addo’

The Presiding Member for Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality in the Western Region, John Davis, has asked New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to exercise restraint and not to put pressure on the President-Elect with regards to appointments.

According to him, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is experienced in politics and knows the type of people needed for the job ahead this time round, and as such, should be given the freehand to do his selection.

The call by the Effia-Kwesimintsim Presiding Member followed some press conferences that had been organized by some NPP members in the region; calling on the President to appoint some personalities in the region for ministerial and other positions.

He said it was better for the President to decide on the best people for the job and called on party supporters to stop the ongoing moves aimed at stampeding the process.

He said the task ahead of the government in its second term would require people with the requisite expertise to help the President to bring the country’s economy back on track after the COVID-19 pandemic and to engender the needed growth.

He said the President should this time round do further background check and broader consultation with those who matter in the society before appointing any person for a ministerial position or as metropolitan, municipal or district chief executives.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Mr. Davis said there was no need to put undue pressure on the President with regards to appointments; adding “I believe the President will let his experience come to bear in selecting people for appointments in his second term of office.”

“It is worrying for some people to think the President does not know which people can best help him prosecute the government’s agenda it has promised,” Mr. Davis stated.

He was grateful to God for the successful general elections last year and the re-election of President Akufo-Addo.

He asked Ghanaians to continue to have faith in the Nana Addo-led government and believed that it would continue to deliver on its promises to restore hope to Ghanaians.
