Asante Kotoko life patron and owner Otumfuo Osei-Tutu II has instructed the club’s new board not to recruit new players for at least a season.

Manhyia Palace’s Chief of Staff Kofi Badu disclosed this during the inaugural ceremony of the board of directors yesterday at the Sports Hotel, Asokwa.

He said Otumfuo’s directive is to enable the club to maintain the current crop of players who the Asantehene believes have what it takes to push the club to a higher pedestal.

“Otumfuo has directed that Kotoko shall not recruit any new player into the current team,” Kofi Badu said.

Kotoko currently have close to 40 players in its fold under Coach Maxwell Konadu.

Meanwhile, the new board is expected to be handed a three-year mandate to run the affairs of the club.

The board, named by Manhyia two weeks ago, has been tasked to rebuild the Kotoko brand not only for its performance on the sporting field but as a viable economic entity.

It has emerged that Kwame Kyei, Executive Chairman of Kotoko Club, will continue his work as head of the newly constituted board.

He will be assisted by Jude Arthur, Alhaji Abu Lamini, Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Joseph Yaw Adu, Laryea Kwamina Mensah and Kwadwo Boateng Genfi.
