The inaugural Ghana Downstream Awards and Gala Night, held recently in Accra, marked the climax of the two-day Ghana International Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (GHIPCon) honouring approximately 50 top winners.
The awards night is a pioneering awards scheme designed to promote compliance within the petroleum industry and to acknowledge both individual and institutional contributions to the growth and sustainability of the sector.
The awards honored distinguished individuals in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry for their exemplary leadership and exceptional dedication. Additionally, several organisations were recognised for their advocacy of best business practices in the sector.
Speaking to the media, Minister of State, at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapa, congratulated the winners for their unflinching support to the petroleum downstream sector over the years.
He called for more investment in the country’s energy infrastructure to secure its future energy needs.
“I want to say ‘ayekoo’ to all the winners for their outstanding contributions to the growth and sustainability of our dear sector,” he said. “Now is the time for urgent investment in our country’s energy infrastructure. We must act swiftly to secure our future energy needs and ensure a stable, sustainable energy supply for generations to come,” he emphasised.
CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, said he was extremely grateful for such a wonderful recognition of some renowned dignitaries in the sector at this highest magnitude.
According to him, the award reflected the companies’ and individuals unwavering focus on meeting and exceeding customer expectations while adhering to rigorous quality standards over the years.
“I am indeed grateful for such a great recognition at this highest milestone. I hope this event will create the opportunity for stakeholders to collaborate, innovate to drive sustainable growth within the petroleum downstream sector,” Dr. Abdul-Hamid noted.
The event, organised in collaboration with the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distribution (CBOD) and the Association of Oil and Marketing Companies (AOMC), under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy, brought together all the industry stakeholders to synergise and pull resources to promote ethics within the sector.
