Driver Arrested With Pump Action Gun

A DRIVER at Nkrumah Circle, who was arrested possessing a pump action gun, assorted bags of rice, and cooking oil suspected to have been stolen, has been granted a GH¢100,000 bail by an Accra Circuit Court.

The accused, Kwaku Boadi, aged 45, was granted bail with two sureties, while the case has been adjourned to April 14, 2022, by the court, presided over by Madam Patricia Amponsah.

Prosecuting, ASP Evans Kessie said complainants are police officers from the Alpha Swat Unit of the Accra Regional Police Command, while accused, Kwaku Boadi, is a driver and a resident of Kronum, Kumasi.

He said on March 27, 2022, at about 4:42am, the Alpha Swat Six team intercepted a Kia Pregio Mini bus with registration number AS 8317-19 loaded with bags of rice at Avenor Railway Crossing.

“The accused who was driving the said vehicle was signaled to stop but failed and sped off. Police chased and finally stopped him at Neoplan station, where accused, together with two others on board, quickly alighted and fled, but luck, however, eluded the accused, and he was arrested,” the prosecution said.

The prosecutor said a search conducted in the vehicle accused was driving revealed thirty five (35) bags of assorted rice brands, four (4) gallons of Lele vegetable cooking oil, a pump action gun loaded with five (5) rounds of BB cartridges, and a pinch bar.

“Accused, during interrogation, refused to mention where he took the items from, and told police that the pump action gun belonged to one of the two suspects who was with him in the vehicle but managed to escape when the police stopped him,” the prosecution added.

He added that efforts are being made to track the two currently at large to face the law.
