The Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA) has lauded drivers of Dangote Cement Ghana Limited for strictly adhering to safety rules while driving on roads in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the Authority, it has had several reports from police about some companies’ drivers drive recklessly.

However, it says, there has not been a single report of reckless driving on the part of Dangote Cement Ghana’s drivers.

Daniel Adjei Amoah, Technical Officer of DVLA Tema Branch, made this known at a training session organized for the company’s drivers at its plant in Tema on Thursday, October 3, 2019, as part of its Sustainability Week Celebration for this year.

“I have never heard anything about Dangote Drivers; I have heard about so many accidents from several companies drivers,” he said, as he commenced the training.

“Dangote has quiet a good record on the road and I think Dangote should keep it up,” he urged.

Several activities including a health talk on depression and stress, dental and eye screening, donation of cement, clean up exercise and school visit, are part of the celebration.

The Sustainability Week Celebration is being observed across subsidiaries of the Dangote Group worldwide.

It seeks to drum home the need for the company to continue to operate in a sustainable manner and impact communities positively.

Mr. Adjei Amoah encouraged the drivers from various departments to remain focused while driving and never to imitate other drivers who are so aggressive on the roads, saying “be free, have patient on the road. If you don’t have patient on the road, you cannot be a good driver.”

He walked them through a series of safety rules on the road.

He stated that “driving is a thinking-right skill.”

Earlier, Managing Director (MD) of Dangote Cement Ghana Limited, Brice Houeto observed the need for zero accident.

General Manager of Transport, Dangote Cement Ghana Limited, Lawal Mohammed Duze Ibrahim, in his opening remarks at the training session, stated that the training was to ensure that the drivers draw impacts from their actions on communities.
