THE Eastern Regional Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lauded the Akufo-Addo led government for undertaking massive educational infrastructure in the Region.
Addressing a presser a day after the Eastern Regional NDC office also Meet The Press and scored the ruling government 14% in the less than four years in office, the NPP said it’s an open secret that the Corrupt NDC party survives on propaganda, lies and mischief, while the NPP thrives on truth, facts and data.
Jerry Osei Poku, the Regional Youth Organiser speaking at the presser dubbed “The Youth Must Know Series” at Akyem – Abomusu in the Atiwa West District where there is an ongoing ultra modern Senior High School, said the ruling government has performed better in the educational sector.
According to him, in less than 4 years, the government of President Akufo-Addo has completed and still constructing a whopping 278 educational infrastructure projects in the Eastern Region alone, comprising of classroom blocks, dormitories, staff accommodation among others.
Jerry Osei Poku noted that out of the 1.2 million beneficiaries of the Free SHS policy, a whopping 182,339 are from the Eastern Region whereas the double-track component of the Free SHS policy has also afforded over 400,000 pupils who hitherto would have been thrown out onto the streets due to poverty and limited space to have access to SHS.
The Regional Youth Organiser noted in less than 4 years President Akufo-Addo has constructed: 69 – 3 unit Classrooms, 894 – 6 Classrooms, 8 – 8 unit Classrooms, 1,644 -12 unit Classrooms, 90 – 18 unit Classrooms, 24 – 24 unit Classrooms which all total 2,729 Classrooms blocks that can accommodate an extra 109,160 pupils whereas Mr Mahama in 4 years built 840 Classrooms that accommodated just about 33,600 pupils at the Second cycle level.
He explained that bereft of ideas, the confused NDC party has said in their 2020 Manifesto that they will abolish the Double Track system in the extremely unlikely event that they win the 2020 presidential elections.
He said the claim to abolish double track is a facade since the NPP government through the Education Ministry has constructed and continues to construct enough infrastructure to phase it out within the shortest possible time.
He said President Akufo-Addo has kept faith with them and again has promised, as contained in the NPP 2020 Manifesto, to consolidate the implementation of the Free SHS policy, complete the provision of Free WiFi at all public schools at the secondary and tertiary levels and also increase the manpower resources and teaching facilities, including ICT teaching aids, of public tertiary institutions to support the expected increases in students population from the Free SHS graduates.
On TVET Projects, he said the Government of President Akufo-Addo has commenced the construction of seven brand new Senior High Schools that meet global standards in his first term.
“The schools have Administration blocks, Classroom blocks, Dormitory Blocks, Dining Halls, Assembly Halls, Laboratories, Libraries, Creative Arts/ Science Blocks, Staff Accommodation, Recreational Facilities, Roads and External works, and Service and Maintenance Shed among others” he underscored.
He said “these magnificent, state of the art buildings you have seen here in Abomosu, in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region is one of the seven ultra-modern New SHSs being built by the Competent Government of President Akufo-Addo. The rest of the projects and additional two (2) existing schools being upgraded to model schools are ongoing in Kwadaso, Dabaa, Akrodie, Koase in Wenchi, Diaso in Central Region, Weija in Ga South, Kpasenkpe in West Mamprusi District and Awaso in Tarkwa Nsuaem”.
He narrated further that the government is also constructing 21 sophisticated Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Centers of Excellence across the country which one of the ultra-modern TVET centres is situated in Anyinam in the Atiwa East District in the Eastern Region.
He stated that the NDC in their 8 years stay in power cannot boast of even one of these above projects as the administration of scholarship under the incompetent Mahama’s Government was messy and disastrous.
Jerry noted that in 2019 alone, over 30,000 brilliant but needed students were given scholarships through the District Level Scholarship Scheme, out of which about 3,000 are from the Eastern Region as it is projected that 60,000 students will be given a scholarship in 2020.
